===== WEEKEND RECAP FOR JULY 17th – 25th, 2024 =====

Another busy but exciting week of monster truck summer racing. Mike Christensen knocks Weston Anderson out of the Top Ten and he did it on the track, beating Anderson in the finals twice in Los Angeles this weekend.

Dawn Creten had raced in 10 final rounds without a victory after her Friday night loss to Dan Dahlgren in Avondale, but she broke that streak and started a new one by winning on Saturday and Sunday as part of the World Series tour.

Jack Brown is up to 12th after a pair of wins, one on the short drag track in Princeton with Overdrive, and then one on the huge track in Mount Pleasant with Throwdown. The Throwdown crew was also in Maple Park for a pair for Figure-8 tracks that saw Jim Koehler beat out Greg Winchenbach both times.

The big upset of the weekend was Dan Agosh knocking off reigning Monster Jam champion Zack Garner in the first round in front of the Hall Brothers Racing hometown fans in Champaign County. Garner struggled on the super-muddy track while Agosh was slow and steady with bigger cleats. He then upset two-time Open Champion Mark Hall in the semis and beat out Elvis Lainez in the finals for his first win of the season!

Thank you to everyone who reported results to us this weekend: Kyle Sizemore, Max Gillie, J.r. Rouse, Ethan Jones, Jeremy Otto, Nick Kraemer, David Olfert, Austin Dahlgren, Ryan Robinson, Dallas Glenn-Rogers, Mason Thompson, Ryan Pitts, David Rife, Mike Bevacqua, Tim Howard, Tyler Wicklander, Taneon Rood, Cam Smith, Kirk Nagy, Phil Vicinanza, and everyone who posted videos and photos online!

The World Series gathered 8 trucks for one of the biggest independent monster truck weekends in Canada for three days of racing on the big infield at Eastbound Speedway. Dawn Creten and Dan Dahlgren met in the finals the first two events and each took a win. Dawn would go on to win on Sunday, too, but we do not have enough information to score that event. Dawn has been in the finals in 24 of her 39 races this season. For Dahlgren it was his 6th win of the season on Friday and gained him 3 spots in the standings. This weekend also saw Mike Vaters Jr suffer his first first-round loss of the season and 2nd generation driver Kory Kinal pilot Bounty Hunter. The World Series moves to Scotia Speedworld this weekend.

From a big event on the east coast to an even bigger event on the West Coast as the Malicious Tour brought 10 trucks (and a tank) to Kitsap County in Washington for a three race weekend. We do not have results from Friday, but it was the usual suspects on Saturday and Sunday with Donald Epidendio and Bill Payne each picking up a win. Epidendio eliminated Payne in the opening round on Saturday night, but Payne beat out the Titan by a full truck-length in the finals on Sunday.

7/17 Wed Ngt: DEVAN WHEELER [Muddy Girl] defeated Jesse Como [Temperature Rising]

Pennsylvania’s Xtreme Monster Sports team took a midweek break from their busy Hot Wheels schedule to attend the Little World’s Fair in Hemlock where Devan Wheeler put Muddy Girl into victory lane for his first win of the season. Wheeler has participated in 65 events this year, but they’ve all been on the Hot Wheels Live tour which does not include any side-by-side racing.

===== IMLAY CITY, MI =====

7/23 Tue Ngt: RYAN HOLMAN [Amped Up] defeated Josh Holman [Godzilla]

Two-jump Tuesday in Imlay City as six trucks competed on a choppy drag racing track. The Holmans faired best and met in the finals where Ryan was fast and smooth and won convincingly for his 4th win of the season. He and Josh are 2-2 in head-to-head races this year.

Josh Holman collected his 1st win since December by taking out David Rife at the MTRL races in Lawrenceburg. To be fair, Holman has only had 4 side-by-side racing events since then as many of his bookings have used only timed racing. He followed this one up with the aforementioned runner-up finish in Imlay City.

Mike Christensen went toe-to-toe with Weston Anderson for 10th place in the Open Championship and came out on top by a mere 16 points. Christensen had at least 1 of his Team Throttle Monster trucks in the finals every race, and three of the times it was himself in Vendetta. He’s up to 10 wins now with 5 of those coming in the past month. Kayla Blood scored the first win for Sparkle Smash on Saturday afternoon, breaking her 0-5 streak in finals this season.

===== MAPLE PARK, IL =====

7/19 Fri Ngt: JIM KOEHLER [Avenger] defeated Greg Winchenbach [Crushstation]

7/20 Sat Ngt: JIM KOEHLER [Avenger] defeated Greg Winchenbach [Crushstation]

Racing in Maple Park last year was wild with trucks getting together in the turns on the tricky high-banked Figure-8 track. The Throwdown team used the same course for this year and while the drivers kept things a bit more under control, the racing was no less intense. Greg Winchenbach looked to have the Friday night race in the bag around the final turn, but he clipped the course marker right before the final jump and bicycled onto the sidewalls. While he successful saved the track, he could not save the race as Jim Koehler powered by for the win. Koehler repeated the win on Saturday but by a healthier margin. Mr Excitement has been in the finals in 6 of his last 9 races since the start of the summer tour. These were his first two wins.

===== MOUNT PLEASANT, MI =====

7/21 Sun Ngt: JACK BROWN [Dirt Crew Dozer] defeated Tim Missentzis [Dirt Crew]

Jack Brown gets his 2nd win in 2 cities on the weekend as he wins out on the huge course at Soaring Eagle Casino. He expertly handled the two turns and five jumps for his 13th win of the season and moves into 12th place in the Open Championship.

===== PENSACOLA, FL =====

This Monster Jam Arena event did not include side-by-side racing and so points were not awarded

===== PHILPOT, KY =====

7/18 Thu Ngt: THOMAS BORDERS [Raybestos Powertrain] defeated Jasmin Borders [Funky Monkey]

Another family affair on the Full Throttle Tour with Thomas and Jasmin borders meeting up in the finals on a wide Chicago-style track in Philpot. Both were fast and smooth all night but experience wins this time with the Raybestos Powertrain taking the win. The father-daughter series is tied as 2 wins a piece in head-to-head competition this season.

===== PRINCETON, IL =====

7/20 Sat Aft: JACK BROWN [Dirt Crew Dozer] defeated James Calhoun [Dirt Crew]

Jack Brown has scored points in his last 10 races (including Mount Pleasant on Sunday) as he continues his push for a spot in the Top Ten. He easily won the drag racing competition with the Overdrive Tour in Princeton and carried that momentum to Soaring Eagle where he would win his 10th of the year.

===== URBANA, IL =====

7/24 Wed Ngt: DANIEL AGOSH [Rammunition] defeated Elvis Lainez [Over Bored]

It was a muddy mess in Champaign, Illinois, but the hometown Hall Brothers Racing team came with big cleats to show off for the hometown fans. All the drivers were having trouble with the super slick turns, but Dan Agosh figured it out best with a slow and steady approach that earned him his first win of the season. Included in that was an unlikely upset of reigning Monster Jam World Finals Racing Champion Zack Garner in the first round! He then eliminated two-time Open Champion Mark Hall in the semis.
